This is a reproduction of the original artwork Wm Conrad Bowen painted in a bound 5.25” x 3.5” Tumuarta Watercolor sketchpad he carries regularly in his cargo pants pocket so he can start painting anywhere on the spot.
Conrad started and finished this watercolor sketchbook painting in his studio on the same day from some photo-scrap he took in early August 2021. It's located on the east rim of the Little Bear River on the southwest edge of Paradise, Utah. We used to call it the Old Red Barn when we were kids. It's so faded, for the most part it's no longer red. In the late '60s his parents razed his mother's parent's homestead home in Paradise and built a new one. During that spring and summer his family rented and lived in an old home adjacent to the Old Red Barn. At the time Russ Brown lived in a trailer-house just north of the house. The old home no longer exists. The house and barn were located on the Atkinson farm and was managed by Fred Summers and later Sharell Summers. For three summers, Conrad worked as a farm hand for Fred & Sharell. he hauled hay, filled the barn, moved sprinkler pipes, watered the fields, and chopped corn-silage until late in the fall. He also did a lot of hunting and fishing in the bottoms below the barn.
