"Bizmarck Stonehouse #2"
15”x11.5” Full-Color Fine Art Edition Printed on White 80 Lb Paper Cover Stock
This is a reproduction of the original artwork Wm Conrad Bowen painted in 2000, on a 12”x9” 140 lb Strathmore Cold Press Watercolor Block.
In the early 70’s Conrad served a 2-year mission for his church in North & South Dakata. One snowy, overcast afternoon he & his companion were driving into Bizmarck, North Dakota & a spectacular view unfolded before their eyes. Conrad insisted on stopping the car on the side of the road & he jumped out of the car, climbed over a fence wearing a suit, tie & dress shoes & trudged 100 yards out into a field in snow up to his knees. With his trusted Olympus Range Finder camera, he clicked off a dozen slides of this abandon rockhouse & tree off in the distance before the sun dropped out of sight. Years later, those images came to his mind with a burning desire to create a painting from the tiny slides he had & images locked in his mind. He ended up doing 3 paintings. When the paintings were completed, Paula said “that’s not what I saw in those old slides” Conrad’s response to her was “this is the way I always saw that remarkable view on a ridge overlooking Bizmarck, North Dakota”!
