11.5”x15” Full-Color Fine Art Edition Printed on White 80 Lb Paper Cover Stock

This is reproduction of the original multi-media artwork Wm Conrad Bowen created with gouache paint, Rapidiograph pen & India ink, Dr. Martin Dyes, acrylic paint, color pencil and magazine collage, on a white 13-1/8”x17-1/25” piece of Crescent illustration board. At the time, Conrad was attending Utah State University in the mid-‘70s.

“Riding Rainbows” was a class assignment Conrad received and completed from a nationally famous artist who visited USU while Conrad was a student.

While attending USU, Jon Andersen and Glen Edwards offered a Thursday evening class where they invited professional artists to come to the school, present their work and answer any questions we had about their personal view of the commercial art world. The class started with art directors and illustrators working in Salt Lake City and blossomed into high-profile professionals from the west and east coasts! As the program matured, guest artists would come (Jon would collect extra funds in the class to pay for their travel, food and lodging), give students an assignment to complete in advance of their arrival, present their work with slides on Thursday night and then critique student work all-day Friday on the assignment. The assignments were usually assignments they had received and completed from actual clients. This class was one of the highlights of Conrad’s education. He met giants in the industry at the time: Bob Peak, Bernie Fuchs, Don Weller, Micki Osaki, Neil Boyl and Reynold Brown … just to name a few. With fellow students, Conrad also took three week-long bus tours to Los Angeles and San Francisco to visit art studios, advertising agencies and the like. It was a unique and unprecedented experience for Conrad.
